Standard camouflage colours of US Navy planes from 1943 till 1945
One of the most effective camouflage schemes of WW2 – US naval aviation “tri-colour camouflage” – was introduced in January 1943 and consisted of Semi-Gloss Sea Blue, NS Intermediate Blue and NS Insignia White (with blended borders between colours). In mid-1944 it was replaced on all carrier-based aircraft by overall Glossy Sea Blue livery, which was simply more practical in terms of maintenance. As far as the Atlantic Theatre of Operations is concerned – dedicated ASW variants (I & II) of the “tri-colour camouflage” were officially introduced only in June 1944 (probably in use much earlier).
