Number of Parts: 149Although already obsolete at the start of the Second World War, the antiquated and vulnerable Fairey Swordfish proved itself to be one of the most iconic and valuable assets of the Fleet Air Arm. While it was the wheeled, carrier-borne varient that delivered a near-fatal blow to the Italian fleet at Taranto, and later became so heavily involved in the sinking of the Bismarck, the Floatplane version saw service throughout the early years of the Second World War.Developed for use by warships that did not have access to carrier air power, the Floatplane proved a valuable aircraft for the Navy, able to perform artillery spotting and anti-submarine duties before being craned back aboard ship. The floats, however, had a major effect on speed, slowing down still further what was already a slow and vulnerable aircraft.
