Development of this British AFV commenced in 1943 and it was introduced in 1945, too late to see combat in WWII. However, it remained in production until the 1960s and remained in frontline service right through till the 1980s. Its combat debut was in the Korean War and a total of 4,423 Centurions were produced in 13 marks until eventually replaced by the Chieftain. The 45.5-ton Centurion Mk 1 was the original variant of this tank. Its sloped front glacis had 76mm of armor while the turret had 152mm-thick armor. It was armed with a proven QF 17pdr Mk 3 gun and a coaxial 20mm Polsten cannon as a secondary armament. Given that this is the first Centurion variant in Dragon’s 1/72 range, this kit of the Tank Medium A45, Centurion Mark 1 is obviously a brand new tooling. Detail is beautifully rendered and no corners are cut in reproducing this important British postwar tank. The 17pdr gun and 20mm Polsten cannon are well represented mounted in the turret. Customers have been anticipating such a kit for a long time, but now the wait is finally over!
