The BMP-3 is the latest Russian Infantry Fighting Vehicle (IFV) – it is the successor of BMP-1 and BMP-2 which were used in high numbers in the Soviet Army and worldwide. Production of the BMP-3 started in 1986 with service in the Russian Army in 1987. The vehicle can carry 10 people (3 crew and 7 infantrymen).
The BMP-3 is one of the most heavily armed IFVs worldwide. Armament consists of one 100mm gun, one 30 mm 2A72 autocannon, AGS-30 grenade launcher and three 7,62mm PKT machine guns. While a high number of BMP-3s are in service with the Russian Army, other countries include South Korea, Venezuela, Indonesia, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait and more.
