The T-72M main battle tank developed in the Soviet Union in the early 1970s is an improved version of the T-72 tank, featuring a number of upgrades including a new 125mm smoothbore gun, new fire control system and new armour package. The T-72M was first deployed in the Soviet Army in 1975. It was also exported to a number of countries including Iraq, Syria, and Iran. The T-72M has seen extensive combat in a number of conflicts, including the Iran-Iraq War and Gulf War.
