Germany created a wide number of self-propelled howitzers (SPH) during WWII, these typically being converted from existing tank chassis. The Sd.Kfz.138/1 Geschtzwagen 38 H fr s.IG.33/1 was one such SPH, this mounting a 150mm infantry gun on the chassis of the Czech-built Pz.Kpfw. 38(t). This vehicle was more commonly known as the Grille (German for ‘cricket’). The s.IG.33/1 gun was mounted in an open-topped superstructure that offered the five-man crew limited protection. The 11.5-ton Grille served in Russia, Tunisia, Italy and France. This newest Grille kit comes with a generous selection of photo-etched parts to complement the high-quality plastic components. As a special addition to celebrate this release, Dragon is including a complementary figure set of self-propelled artillery crewmen to populate the vehicle. This fine new 1/35 scale kit, which sees the Grille available once again, will have fans chirping happily like crickets!
