The first experience of combat employment for this 57mm gun was in North-Africa in 1941 with the British forces demonstrating a successful use of the weapon. With a high fire rate of 15 rounds per minute, the 6 pounders quite easily pierced the armour of any German tank. Even heavy tanks like the Tiger I, which emerged in the second half of 1942, were not safe from the Mk.II anti-tank gun.
